The Hurunui High Country Track surrounded by the uncrowded wilderness of a high country station with its stunning views and plentiful wildlife, provides an incomparable New Zealand walking experience.
The track covers 30km over 3 nights, passing through a wide range of vegetation and landscapes including farmland, beech forest, and sub-alpine terrain.
Each nights accommodation is unique and compliments the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.
The first nights accommodation is at the Cook House which is the old shearer's quarters for the staion built in 1914. It has been coverted to provide rooms with 2 single beds in each. It has a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, fridge, barbecue, hot showers and flush loos.
The second nights accommodation is at the Valley Camp Hut. A large open plan hut with a fully equipped kitchen, gas cooking facilities, barbecue, hot shower, flush loo, comfy beds and a small gas fridge for perishable items.
The third nights accommodation is at the Bush Hut (built in 1932) and has all the characteristics of early pioneering times with a few modern facilities such as gas cookers, barbecue, small gas fridge and a hot shower. It has bunks, semi permanent tents and views of the mountains.
Pack transport is optional for an additional charge of $30 per person
