Wellness & Relaxation

This itinerary is suited to 3 days / 2-3 nights, although if time is short you can easily overnight in the Hurunui.

Located in the Hurunui is the Alpine Pacific Triangle touring route, showcasing a rich tapestry of experiences which combine to bring you wellness and balance on your New Zealand journey.

What better place to relax before, during or at the end of your well deserved break. Spend a few days – you owe it to yourself!

Start in the Waipara Valley, New Zealand's finest wine region. Enjoy seeking out the boutique winery cellar doors and vineyard restaurants where you can easily whittle away quality hours of rural ambience.

Accommodation in the Waipara Valley includes luxury, hosted and independent establishments.

Next on the list should be heading inland to Hanmer Springs, New Zealand's Alpine Spa Village, which has been a favourite holiday destination for generations.

Check out the multi award-winning Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa complex. A visit to the therapeutic waters is a must and to definitely spoil yourself include a wellness treatment from any of the health and beauty centres located throughout the village. Allow plenty of time – you won’t want to rush!

Breathe in the rejuvenating fresh alpine air while exploring 50km of forest walks and mountain bike tracks (suitable for all fitness levels), or whilst playing a round of golf surrounded by the mountains or when getting to know the exotic residents at the animal nature park.

When staying overnight in Hanmer Springs a substantial variety of accommodation is available that will suit everyone’s requirements including motels, bed & breakfasts, holiday parks, backpackers, lodges, chalets, and a four star hotel.

After Hanmer Springs head towards the coast to Kaikoura, which is famous for its eco-tourism and is the northern point of the Alpine Pacific Triangle. Here nature is close by, literally on your doorstep, relish encounters with whales, dolphins, seals and the pelagic birds that call Kaikoura home.

Dotted along the Alpine Pacific Triangle touring route are delightful cafes and restaurants; enjoy a coffee, a tasty lunch or a fantastic evening meal.

Relax by browsing through the region’s boutique stores, galleries and craft shops. You are sure to find that special gift for either yourself or someone special.

We hope you leave the Hurunui feeling truly relaxed, inspired and ready for your next journey.
